Openning remarks!

This is the place where you and I can meet and discuss politics, public administration, and public policies. Our focus here will mainly be aimed at issues directly related to Taiwan. Yet, any interesting topics, however vaguely related, will also be welcomed.
Here are a couple of rules that I want you to observe.

First, I encourage you to write down what you want to say here in English, though this is not imperative.

However, it is highly critical that any remarks that are not based on personal opinions, should be accompanied by well documented citations.

Thirdly, no plagiarism is allowed!!! Anything of that sort being found, you are guaranteed to be flunked!

As for the scope of your group project, you can either choose from the four topics that I assigned in the class or you can choose from topics that has somehow caught your interests. But it has to be somehow related to public policies. However, for the latter kind, you have to post a short outline in this blog telling me how are you going to make sense out of it and ask for my permission. The four topics that I assigned in the class will be repeated in the following. Also, be sure to label your writings with the titles that I laid down here for you.
Title 1:
I Want to Play the Major League, but They Just Wanted me to Play the Minor League.
我要玩大聯盟,但他們只要我玩小聯盟。
Why there seems to be incessant gambling scams in our professional baseball? Why is that a problem? Why has the salary of our beloved national hero, the well-known major league baseball pitcher, Chien-Ming Wang, been much lower than his counterparts in the U.S.?
Title 2:
Why the Flagrance of Gukeng Coffee Swirled in the Air No More?
古坑咖啡為何不再飄香?
Title 3:
Why the Yilan International Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival Is No Longer to Be Held Again?
宜蘭童玩節為何不玩了?
Title 4:
Why Has there been Frequent Deficiencies in the Managerial Committees of the Taiwanese Condomiums?
為何社區管理委員會經常有許多弊端?
For those groups that choose the second and the third title, you are also required to answer the following question: What does your finding tell you about the so-called "cultural creative industry" that has been earnestly promoted by our authorities?

Finally, starting from now on and before our next classes meet (10/3), each of you are all asked to post something (A casual greeting will be just fine!) in the blog using the following labels, i.e. your names, your group names, your classes (96/2A or 96/2B), and your project titles.

Bon voyage!
